i don’t think there really is any definable “end” to a film project, but certainly the moment you start exporting that final file makes for a good feeling. i’m sitting on the screened-in porch of my parents’ house right now as i wait for Compressor to do its thing. Dad is grilling some hamburgers with propane (and propane accessories). Mom is on a mission trip with the church youth group; i’ll rendezvous with them on Friday. the dogs are lounging in the back yard, no doubt wondering if they’ll get any of the beef they can faintly smell cooking. I’m trying to relax for the first time in a few days, but the agitation of hurry and coffee are still coarsing.

principal photography wrapped last night for Sleepwalking.  i feel really good about everything.  i haven’t looked at any dailies yet, but saw most everything over Dan Baker‘s shoulder, and it looked so much like it did in my head.  it was such a great feeling to see these dreamy vision type ideas come out of my head, into Dan’s and the rest of the crew’s, and out onto the screen.

i don’t have time to do a full wrap up just now; the parabolos production core (john boggs, amanda gibson, jessica powers, and myself) are headed to Brother Juniper’s for breakfast.  we’ll decompress a bit, i’m sure, but mainly we’ll eat delicious food and get our caffeine boost for the day before jessica and i head back to the house to clean up.  we wrapped most everything last night, but there’s still a few things remaining.

this is the first production in a while that i kinda hate that it’s over.  i had a lot of fun, learned a ton, and hope everyone else can say the same.  more later…

parabolos team member william cavataio has done some great work for us on the Sleepwalking website!  an interim page is up that has some more information on it than the previous teaser page.  check out the interim page and consider donating!  we’re still a few hundred shy of our proposed budget.  every little bit helps.  thanks in advance!

new incarnation of the Sleepwalking webpage going up sometime tonight.  this is a major step for us, as it will be the first time the film webpage will feature verbs.*  i can’t wait to really spend some time on the website after production is over.  i think it’s going to be really cool.

but feel free to go ahead and check out the site now.  it’ll give me something to look at when i refresh my Google analytics dashboard tomorrow.  also, be sure and click on the button that says “Donate” and do WHATEVER IT TELLS YOU.  thanks.

one last thing!  if you’re an iPhone owner, add to your home screen… we made a little custom button for it.  we did the same for the parabolos website as well.

* – i’m aware “donate” is a verb.  that was more a Steve Martin** reference than anything else.
** – Steve Martin the stand-up comedian, not the Final Cut Suite Trainer as featured on, though that Steve Martin is also amazing at what he does.

parabolos is well into pre-production on Sleepwalking, a 20-minute short film that serves in many ways as a great test run for a lot of the processes we’ve been developing for a while.  we’re working out the kinks in protocol, advertising, communication… and we’re one of the few groups of people i know actually using google wave.  it’s still in beta, but has become a great tool for us.  i really hope google and apple can keep their relationship amicable.  that would make me a happy little filmmaker.

you can click on the link above for a teaser site.  featured near the bottom is the paypal Donate button; if you’d like to contribute to our film production, we’d gladly thank you!  i’ll posting every now and then over the next few weeks with updates about the production, and we’ll have a full website for the film up and running before too long.
